sounding light

Known for its inspiring and illuminating performances, sounding light brings together a unique collection of singers gathered from seven states. Led by its founder, Tom Trenney, sounding light is committed to offering its members a spiritual and holistic approach to ensemble singing while offering its listeners a compelling and timeless experience with the choral art.  Since its birth in 2003, sounding light has been privileged to sing with Anton Armstrong, David Davidson, Joseph Flummerfelt, Alice Parker, and William Weinert, and has premiered works by Carmen Cavallaro, David DiChiera, Stacey Gibbs, Jake Runestad, Tom Trenney, and Anne Wilson.  With three recordings to date, sounding light will release its next CD to celebrate its fifteenth anniversary in 2017-18. The highlight of the 2016-17 season will be the choir’s debut performance at the National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association in Minneapolis. www.soundinglight.org

Tom Trenney is grateful to be in his fourteenth season as conductor of sounding light, an ensemble he founded in 2003. As Minister of Music to First-Plymouth Church in Lincoln, Nebraska, Tom leads four adult choirs, accompanies the congregation in worship, and preaches. In the last two seasons, First-Plymouth’s choirs have been featured at conventions of the Nebraska Music Educators Association and the Nebraska and North Central regions of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). In March 2017, two of Tom’s choirs will sing for the National Convention of the ACDA in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Eastman School of Music, Tom serves on the conducting faculty at Doane University. His organ and choral recordings are featured regularly on public radio, and his choral compositions are published by Augsburg Fortress, G. Schirmer, Morningstar, MusicSpoke, and Pavane.
